Great for insomnia, restless sleep, stress, anxiety, and for those who have issues falling asleep. Below is a description of each herb used in this blend with specific details on how it can help calm the nervous system and aid in a restorative, and restful night’s sleep.

Catnip (Nepeta cataria)—Aromatic, carminative, diaphoretic, nervine, and sedative properties. Catnip is an herb that is great for settling the stomach and calming your nerves. It can aid in supporting the nervous system by relieving anxiety, stress, and nervousness. It can also be helpful as a sleep aid.

Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora)—Nervine tonic, antianxiety, hypnotic, anodyne, and antispasmodic properties. Skullcap encourages deep, restful sleep; yet it is not overly sedating, and many people use the herb throughout the day to help alleviate pain, restlessness, or anxiety. This herb can be an excellent remedy for calming anxiety and lowering stress during heightened situations. Skullcap can also be used to lessen teeth grinding and clenching at night and help reduce overall tension in the jaw. It is also known to help relieve muscle cramps throughout the body. Skullcap herb can also be beneficial for helping to alleviate tension headaches, back pain, twitching muscles, and sore and tight muscles.

Passionflower (Passiflora incarata, P. quadrangularis)—Nervine, relaxant, and sedative properties. When combined with other nervines, passionflower (a relaxing nervine), can help aid sleep, decrease tension, and stress or help to alleviate muscle twitching and/or spasms. It also works to quiet an active mind with racing thoughts. Passionflower can be a supportive remedy for on-edge agitation in the mind/body and for overall exhaustion.

Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis)—Analgesic (anodyne), antispasmodic, nervine, sedative, and soporific (hypnotic) properties. Valerian is a very powerful nervine with strong sedating effects on the central nervous system. It has been used to treat a vast range of nervous system conditions, such as mild pain, muscle tightness and insomnia. When combined specifically with passionflower and skullcap, the blend of herbs can create a safe and effective hypnotic effect. While part of the population is more prone to be stimulated by valerian, the herb is most famously known as a supportive sleep aid remedy.

Chamomile Flowers (Chamomilla recutita, Matricaria recutita) —Antispasmodic, aromatic, carminative, diaphoretic, digestive tonic, and nervine properties. This wonderful herb can work as a mild sedative and can aid in a better night’s sleep. Chamomile is also known to support the nervous system by settling nerves and creating a calming effect in the body.

Rose Petals (Rosa spp.)—Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidepressant, and astringent properties. Rose petals are an encouraging and aesthetically pleasing addition to herbal teas. They can also help heal heartache and decrease stress.

Lavender (Lavandula officinalis, syn. L. angustifolia)—Analgesic (anodyne), antifungal, aromatic, and relaxant properties. Lavender is a relaxing nervine that calms anxiety and unease. This herb can best support people who need to relax that are specifically nervous, high-strung, and have racing thoughts. Lavender can aid as a mild antidepressant and can uplift one’s mood. It also has a slight analgesic effect, and when taken shortly after onset, can relieve headaches and migraines.

Hops (Humulus lupulus)— Analgesic (anodyne), aphrodisiac, antacid, anthelminthic, anti-spasmodic, nervine, phytoestrogen, sedative, and soporific (hypnotic) properties. Hops is a potent nervine and sleep aid. When combined with other carminatives, it can be an excellent remedy for settling a nervous, acidic stomach. Hops works best on people with poor digestion, an irritated nervous system, and insomnia.
